Get Money

The Terrapin football team has seven interceptions through the first five games this season, but the Terps’ lack of communication after grabbing a pick bothered coach Ralph Friedgen.

“Normally when teams intercept the ball, they have some call they make to allow the rest of the defense to know that there’s been an interception. Sometimes people don’t see it, and we weren’t making any calls,” Friedgen said. “I’ve seen ‘Mayday,’ or ‘Oskie.’ (sp?) We’re calling out ‘money’ now.”

Why money? Cornerback Kevin Barnes, who has two interceptions so far this season, explained it like this:

“Denard Wilson was here last year as a defensive assistant, and every time somebody would drop an interception in a game or practice he’d be like ‘You know what, you just lost some money right there,’” Barnes said. “Because that’s what makes you money, catching interceptions and making plays. Pretty much every time we make an interception now in practice we call ‘money’ and everybody turns and starts blocking for the return.”

Pretty clever.

like how the defense have been playing so far….”MONEY”

How can you be satisfied with the defense? Luck was on our side the saturday afternoon against Cal that we didn’t relinquish that lead. The first half of Clemson looked horrible and it’s fortunate that the Tigers lost their swagger in the second half and couldn’t muster anything up. And let us not get started on the MTSU game, a team that Florida Atlantic (who? exactly) on gave up 14 points to.

Cosh at times has this defense playing brilliantly, but at others it just looks like flag football with pads. Cosh and his coaches need to find some type of consistency for this team to feed off of.
