First Half Impressions: Terps vs. Northwood

November 8th, 2008 03:50 pm by Greg Schimmel

Some observations compiled during the first half Terrapin men’s basketball team’s exhibition game against Northwood.

-Interesting starting lineup for the Terps. They went with Eric Hayes, Cliff Tucker, Landon Milbourne, Dino Gregory and Braxton Dupree. Gregory playing the 4 is probably the only real surprise, but then again who else among the Terp big men is any better?

-Suspended guard Greivis Vasquez looked dapper in his suit and tie at the end of the Terps’ bench. He didn’t look too happy to be there, and didn’t show much emotion during the game.

-It’s pretty cool that Rollie Massimino is the head coach for the Seahawks. The coach of  the 1985 NCAA Champion Villanova Wildcats is a basketball icon. It’s also pretty cool that the head coach of Northwood has the same number of national championships as the head coach of Maryland.

-Jin Soo Kim got a nice cheer from the crowd when he checked into the game for the first time with 13:08 remaining in the half. Kim hustles and brings good energy to the floor, but he looks very raw on both ends of the court. The crowd held its breath in excited anticipation every time he put up a shot. Kim appears to be an intriguing novelty to fans.

-My boy Jermaine Middleton got into the game for the first time with fewer than seven minutes remaining in the half, and showed why a 7′5″ center can’t start for Northwood. Let’s just say Middleton doesn’t move very well.

-Landon Milbourne, Cliff Tucker and Adrian Bowie were the stars of the first half for the Terps. Bowie and Milbourne lead all scorers with 14 points each. Milbourne has looked very aggressive, and Bowie heated up from the outside late in the half. Tucker had 11 points, and was very quick to the basket.

-It’s 53-35 Terps at halftime.

I agree about Middleton, I’d say his movement is like Joe Paterno meets Ralph Friedgen.
