Terps’ soccer ACC Quarterfinal vs. UNC: Final

This one just went final, and it was a 1-0 Terp win. Just as in last Friday night’s matchup against the Tar Heels, the Terps got tons of pressure in the opening moments of the second half, but were unable to widen their lead. Rodney Wallace had a ball go off the crossbar, Jason Herrick shot a ball off of the left post and Casey Townsend was once again one on one with Tar Heel goalkeeper Brooks Haggerty. Townsend’s shot was directly toward Haggerty though, who at that point was coming out of goal.

After the Terps’ missed chances, the Tar Heels applied a good amount of pressure. Terp keeper Zac MacMath was no doubt the player of the game, as he made a number of diving saves. Coach Sasho Cirovski agreed that it was the freshman’s best game to date.

As suspected, Kassel did not return to the game. He has a right foot contusion, according to Cirovski. Townsend also got banged up, according to the coach, but he’s hopeful both will be back for Friday’s semifinal against the winner of Boston College/Clemson- which is going to start in five minutes.
