Kim’s return provides big help

It’s no secret at this point that Jin Soo Kim is a fan favorite, for whatever reason that might be.

And just when the fans were worried they’d lose the popular player – and first Korean ever to play Division 1 college basketball on scholarship – after he’d been declared ineligible due to academics, Kim was back on the court Saturday after being reinstated by the NCAA the day before.

Saturday, Kim invigorated the crowd in his return with a dunk and a 3-pointer. But it was Kim who apparently took the most to settle down, not the raucous Comcast Center crowd.

“I had to get him off the ceiling, he was so happy,” coach Gary Williams said.

Terp captain Landon Milbourne said Kim’s contribution is more than just that of a crowd pleaser, though.

“He’s good because he’s so energetic,” the junior forward said. “We need that coming off the bench. … He comes in, he hits a 3, he gets a dunk. He just tries to do everything he can for the little bit of minutes he plays.”
