Cecil Twice as Nice

In his second major league start with the Toronto Blue Jays, former Terrapin baseball pitcher Brett Cecil was even better than in his debut. The Dunkirk, Md, native allowed just one earned run through six innings last week in his first big league start, and this time around, he was even better.

Final Line: 8 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 0 HR…

And of course, 1 W

Cecil picked up another milestone, his first win, as the Blue Jays shut out the Oakland A’s 5-0 in Oakland. His list of strikeout victims include such luminaries as Jason Giambi, Matt Holliday, Jack Cust and Orlando Cabrera.

In one of my most recent posts about Cecil I said that Terp fans shouldn’t expect to see the left-hander the majors for very long. But, if Cecil keeps pitching like this I may end up helping myself to a steaming plate of my own words because there is no way Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston will send him down as long as he keeps it up.

Cecil is now sporting a spiffy 0.64 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and a sparkling 6:1 K/BB ratio.

Those are good numbers.
