Also receiving votes. It’s been a familiar phrase for Terps fans since I’ve been in school, it seems. Still, not awful for a squad that lost 30 seniors, and top 10 draft pick Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Three teams on the Terps schedule checked in amongst the Top 25. This is perhaps to the chagrin of Goliath-slaying QB Chris Turner, who is 5-1 as a starter against ranked opponents in his career.
Virginia Tech tops the current list at No. 7. But considering the Hokies’ opening date against No. 5 Alabama, they likely won’t be that high when they travel to College Park. That is unless of course they somehow survive that game, and avoid losses to Miami (9/26) and No. 20 North Carolina (10/29) at home and No. 15 Georgia Tech (10/17) on the road.
The Terps open their season on the road against No. 12 California. You might remember the Golden Bears from last year. They are one of the ranked-team scalps on Mr. Turner’s resume. Also, the Terps pay a visit to No. 19 Florida State on Nov. 21.
One other nugget: Due to scheduling, the Terps only face half of the ACC’s four ranked members. That could end up being a huge help for a team looking to break in new players in many key areas.
