Player Highlights from Media Day

The entire Terrapin football team was made available to the local media this afternoon before the Terps’ first fall practice tonight. Here are the most interesting things some of the more high-profile Terps had to say.

>Quarterback Chris Turner talked about what it’s like to be the clear No.1 starter heading into camp this season compared to last year when he was battling for the job with Jordan Steffy. “I guess the main difference is just the younger guys are going to be looking up to me,” Turner said. “There is a little bit of a weight on my shoulder I guess but it’s not a weight I can’t bear.”

>Linebacker Alex Wujciak said the knee injury that kept him out of spring practice shouldn’t be an issue this season. “It’s fine,” Wujciak said. “I didn’t do spring, but I came and worked out over the summer and it feels pretty good.”

>Cornerback Nolan Carroll said he is recovered from the concussion he suffered in a frightening collision with running back Da’Rel Scott’s knee during a spring scrimmage, and he won’t let the scare affect the way he plays. “That’s [would] be a problem because if I were to think about it, it would probably happen again because I’d be being cautious,” Carroll said. “The best thing would be to not even think about it and just go out there and play.”

>Scott said the MCL injury he suffered on that play won’t be an issue either, and he didn’t think it was a cheap play. “We called each other to make sure everything was cool and we apologized,” Scott said. “It was just a freak accident. Things happen like that.”

>Linebacker Adrian Moten discussed how he feels about defensive coordinator Don Brown’s new scheme that everyone is raving about. “I like it too man, I like it a lot,” Moten said. “I think we’re going to have a very exciting season this year.”

>Cornerback Anthony Wiseman commented on his reaction to Darrius Heyward Bey’s recently signed contract with the Oakland Raiders, which guarantees the former Terp at least 23.5 million dollars. “Crazzzy. I was like ‘This is crazy,’” Wiseman said. “I was like, ‘Wow. He’s set for life.’”
