Friedgen punts on returning decision

Terp football coach Ralph Friedgen is still not tipping his hat on any real decision at punt returner for this weekend.

Wide receiver Tony Logan earned the job in camp, but he’s been out with a shoulder injury and has yet to see the field. Friedgen said he was 85 percent right now.

In back-up duties, cornerback Anthony Wiseman and safety Kenny Tate have both been steady, aside from a Tate fumble last week against James Madison.

For right now, it sounds like even if Logan can play, he may not be returning kicks, though. Friedgen said he was worried because Logan has been a little tentative.

With true freshman kicker Nick Ferrara 9-of-9 on kicks, punter Travis Baltz seemingly finding his groove against James Madison in the second half and kick returner Torrey Smith having scored two touchdowns in the last three games, dating back to last winter’s Humanitarian Bowl, special teams would appear to be a Terp strength again this year.

Some certainty at punt returner could only help.
