Terrapin men’s soccer defender Alex Lee underwent surgery today after he was struck by a car in Washington early Saturday night, a team official confirmed tonight.

Lee, a sophomore who had started all 11 games this year at right back, was hit about 9:30 p.m. last night. He sustained head injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent successful surgery.

Lee is currently in stable condition. The official said Lee is expected to make a full recovery.

It has not been determined for how long Lee will be out, but the official confirmed he will not play in the team’s match Tuesday against Georgetown.

An official statement from the program and coach Sasho Cirovski is expected to be released tomorrow morning.

Lee, a Rockville, Md., native, scored a school-record 21 goals in 2007 for Magruder High School as he led the Colonels to the 4A state title his senior season. He appeared in 13 games as a forward for the Terps last season, but converted to defense in the offseason. He has teamed with freshmen Ethan White and Taylor Kemp and senior Kevin Tangney to lead an inexperienced defense that has allowed only 0.82 goals per game, fourth in the ACC.
