So Terp fans got a breather this weekend as Ralph Friedgen’s team had a bye week. Who knows whether an extra week of preparation will make the difference in a battle between two teams each with just one ACC win.

I am not sure if you all have ever heard of the word “parity,” but it seems to be the right cliche term to use to describe the ACC as a conference. Once again, at least one team thought to be above the rest fell this week as Virginia Tech was humbled by North Carolina. But other than that, this week was rather predictable.

That doesn’t mean the trio of myself, sports editor Aaron Kraut, and opinion editor Rob Gindes didn’t spend hours pouring over notes and research to bring you the very freshest material for this week’s power rankings.

Enjoy.

1. Georgia Tech (Last week – 2)

Paul Johnson’s offensive style is extremely similar to my NCAA Football offensive style. Run the option until it’s third and long, then run “All Streaks” and have Josh Nesbitt throw the ball to his monster wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. – Mike Lemaire

2. Miami (Last week – 3)

If FBS football was Legends of the Hidden Temple, the ACC would be a team that gets one full pendant of life (Georgia Tech) and onehalf-pendant (Miami). And everyone else gets nothing, which is to say, they’re going into the Temple (bowl games) with absolutely nothing and will get steamrolled. This was the best college-football-to-90s-childrens’-game-show analogy you will find on a student newspaper blog this week. – Rob Gindes

3. Clemson (Last week -4)

(Ed. Note: Aaron actually has Clemson ranked at #2 and pretty much has a full-blown man-crush on the Tigers. Still no word on whether he realizes the Tigers lost to Maryland.)

The Tigers keep vaultin’ up these rankings. With star defensive end Da’Quan Bowers doubtful for this weekend’s tilt with Florida State, that movement could stop. – Aaron Kraut

4. Virginia Tech (Last week – 1)

Frequent power ranking contributor Adi Joseph reamed me for ranking the Hokies ahead of Georgia Tech last week and I give credit where credit is due. Everytime I think Tyrod Taylor could become a true quarterback he plays like he did Thursday against the Tar Heels’ speedy defense. – Michael Lemaire

5. Florida State (Last week – 5)

Telling ACC stat of the week: The ‘Noles have three conference losses already and still have a DECENT shot at the Atlantic Division title with a win Saturday at Clemson. – Aaron Kraut

6. Boston College (Last week – 6)

They continue to beat the teams they are supposed to beat and lose to the teams they are supposed to lose to. There is really not much to say about this team. They’re consistent. You know what to expect out of them. Boring. I bored myself writing this. I’m bored. Zzzzz. – Rob Gindes

7. Duke (Last week – 7)

Telling ACC stat of the week #2: If the Blue Devils played in the Atlantic Division, they would be alone in first place. – Mike Lemaire

8. North Carolina (Last week – 10)

The ACC defense with the most NFL prospects showed up big-time at Lane Stadium on Thursday in a game no one thought the Tar Heels would win.

9. Wake Forest (Last week – 9)

They only lost by one to Miami. Also, that reminds me: We’ve reached the portion of these rankings where the only good things I say about these teams starts with “They only lost by…” – Rob Gindes

10. Virginia (Last week – 8)

Thank god! I was beginning to think that I wouldn’t get my chance to make an Al Groh joke….that was it. – Mike Lemaire

11. NC State (Last week – 11)

Huge match-up this week against the Terps for Tom O’Brien’s squad, at least terms of Terrapin Trail power rankings. The winner should stay in the coveted 11th place. – Rob Gindes

12. Maryland (Last week – 12)

At 2-6, bye weeks don’t improve your rankings. They just make what you’ve done so far look worse. – Aaron Kraut
