RALEIGH, N.C.–The story of the second quarter abruptly changed when Chris Turner left the game with an apparent leg injury.
Turner rolled around on the ground in pain after throwing an incomplete pass, and he needed two members of the Terps’ medical staff to help him off the field.
As backup Jamarr Robinson led the offense on the Terps’ next possession, Turner walked gingerly into the locker room under his own power.
We’ll have more information about Turner as soon as it becomes available.
Before the injury, Turner capped the first drive of the quarter with a 1-yard run on a quarterback keeper to make it 21-17 Terps with 12:52 left in the half.
Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson answered with a long 10-play, 76-yard drive that ended with an 18-yard touchdown pass to receiver Darrell Davis to make it 24-21 Wolfpack with 7:02 left in the half.
A false start penalty had the Wolfpack facing a third-and-13, but Wilson found Davis between Terp cornerback Cameron Chism and safety Terrell Skinner to give the Wolfpack the lead back.
After Turner got hurt throwing his incomplete pass on third and long, the Wolfpack fumbled the ensuing punt return to give the Terps the ball at the Wolfpack 31.
But with Robinson leading the offense–he didn’t throw any passes–the Terps’ drive ended with kicker Nick Ferrara getting his 27-yard field goal attempt blocked.
The Terps had wide receiver LaQuan Williams throw a pass into the endzone intended for Adrian Cannon, but Williams’ pass fell short.
The Wolfpack drove to the Terps’ 11 in the final minute of the half, but Terp cornerback Richard Taylor picked off Wilson in the endzone.
Taylor almost left the endzone and then went back in, which would have been a safety, but after an NC State challenge officials ruled Taylor did not enter the field of play.
Another eventful quarter to say the least.
