Friday’s lacrosse scrimmage canceled

February 4th, 2010 06:30 pm by Kate Yanchulis

The threat of the weekend snow storm derailed the men’s lacrosse team’s weekend scrimmages against Cornell and Loyola.

The Terps wanted to get their first taste of competition this season against the Big Red and the Greyhounds in two Saturday afternoon contests in College Park. They planned to use the practice games to evaluate their progress since the fall season and to continue to search for solid contributors in a young midfield.

But when murmurs of inclement weather grew louder on Wednesday, the scrimmage against in-state rival Loyola was scrubbed and the exhibition against Cornell, the runner-up in last season’s national title game, moved up to Friday at 1 p.m. at the football turf practice fields.

Earlier today, though, with the National Weather Service estimates that between 16-24 inches of snow starting to fall as early as 11 a.m. on Friday, the Terps gave up the fight against the winter weather and cancelled the scrimmage.

That leaves the team with one scrimmage on the road against defending national champion Syracuse next Saturday before the start of the season the next week at Bellarmine in Louisville.

From a Bellarmine grad and fan, have a safe trip to Louisville. I am looking forward to heading down there myself to catch that game.
