DURHAM, N.C.- It’s always fun to see what the Cameron Crazies have to say about the Terp roster.
For each home game, students entering Cameron Indoor Stadium are handed “cheer sheets” with notes on Terp players and coaches.
I snagged one on my way into the building today.
Here are some highlights:
- Today is coach Mike Krzyzewski’s 63rd birthday (Not to mention his 1,000 game as Blue Devils head coach.)
- Predictably, there is mention of guard Greivis Vasquez’s “Caracas Shuffle” as well as his penchant for rocking weird facial hair and of course, his mention last season that Cameron was “his house” prior to a 41-point Terp defeat.
- My favorite note regards forward Landon Milbourne. It’s always jumped out to me that on his umterps.com profile one of the senior’s hobbies is “making hip-hop beats.” I’ll defer to the cheer sheet for the rest of the story: “He mixes his music as ‘La Milion Productions’ (one ‘L’). Only 7 of his 300 MySpace friends are fans of his music page (One is Tom, and one is Myspace Music–so really he only has 5 fans.) I sincerely hope that this gets turned into a chant somehow today.
- “Sean Mosley refuses to get a haircut from anyone who is bald.” This would also make a weird cheer or jeer.
- Not even the Terps benchwarmers are exempt. The sheet notes that Ersin Levent would like Ben Affleck to play him in a movie about him. The fact that David Pearman is in a raggae band also makes the notes. (Believe it or not, at Florida State there were fans behind me who jeered Pearman by name during a random timeout.)
It’s a pretty interesting collection of facts and material, I must say.
Oh, and of course, the final note on the cheer sheet may hit a little close to home: “Don’t use profanity—we do not want to act like Maryland students.”
We’re about a half hour from the scheduled tip. We’ll see what the Cameron Crazies have to say about this one.
