Tucker’s buzzer beater: Where does it rank?

That was Cliff Tucker Saturday against Georgia Tech, and it’s important to see the entire sequence that led up to the game-winner.

Vasquez’s bank shot (and the timeout that made it not count) make Tucker’s moment unique compared to these other Terp buzzer beaters, even if they came in more consequential games:

Joe Smith vs. Duke, 1995:

Smith scored 40 points as assistant Billy Hahn filled in for an ill Gary Williams and the No. 6 Terps won 94-92.

Laron Profit vs. Wake Forest, 1997:

Laron Profit hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lead the No. 11 Terps to a 54-51 win over Tim Duncan’s No. 2 Demon Deacons.

Drew Nicholas vs. UNC-Wilmington, 2003:

Similar to Saturday’s game, there was no room for error with this shot – the Terps were trailing. Unlike Saturday’s game, there really was no room for error for Nicholas. The Terps’ season would have been over had he missed.

Instead, the Terps won 75-73 and went on to win their second round game before falling in the Sweet 16.
