The Terps came into this one hoping to hold serve against a struggling Virginia squad after an emotional home upset of No. 4 Duke.
So far, so good.
Without suspended star Sylven Landesberg, the Cavaliers have struggled to find an identity. They’ve used a 10-man rotation on Senior Day.
They also have gotten handled on the boards. I mentioned earlier, the Terps’ success rebounding the first time these two teams met. So far, the Terps have a 22-10 edge in rebounds. They’ve turned 11 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points.
Greivis Vasquez leads the way with 10 points, but after a brief early spurt, he didn’t score in the last 12:52 of the half. No other Terp has more than five points, but all eight Terps to play have scored. The visitors have led by as many as 14 points.
There hasn’t been a whole lot of energy in the less-than-capacity John Paul Jones Arena, but the Terps, who haven’t trailed, have done everything they needed to do for the first 20 minutes.
