MLax halftime update: Terps 6, Duke 5

March 6th, 2010 12:11 pm by Kate Yanchulis

The Terps head into the intermission holding a 6-5 lead after grabbing the lead and the momentum in the last five minutes of a back-and-forth half.

Duke kicked off the scoring with a goal from attackman Ned Crotty, marking the first time this season they have notched the first goal of the game. But the Terps owned the rest of the quarter with three straight scores, including two from attackman Grant Catalino, points No. 99 and 100 in his career.

But led by a powerful attack, the Blue Devils came back with a flurry of shots, taking a 4-1 run in the first 10 minutes of the second quarter. All have Duke’s goals have come from their attack.

The Terps, though, took a timeout to regain their composure and then, 47 seconds later, tied the game off another Catalino goal, giving him a first-half hat trick. And then, for an exhilarating end to the first 30 minutes, attackman Ryan Young tricked the Duke defenders – and many in the stands and press box – by faking a pass to Travis Reed but actually flipping it to himself. Then, he fed it to an open Will Yeatman, who punched it in for a goal and a one-point lead.
