N.C. State leftovers

There was so much that happened in Saturday night’s epic 1-1 tie against N.C. State that some of it couldn’t make the Monday game recap. Here’s the best of the rest:

Sasho Cirovski

On discipline: “We have to make sure that we’re smarter with our discipline. We have a very disciplined team. We have the most shots and the least fouls. I think we’ll learn to make sure that we don’t put anything into the discretion of the referee again. We will learn from it.”

On midfielder Drew Yates: “I feel like I’ve got to jumpstart Drew. He sometimes lets his guard down and goes in a casual mode. I’ve got to keep jumpstarting him to make sure he’s engaged and tuned in. He rose to the occasion in the second  half.”

On… deposits?: “I said to them as they’re going to overtime, ‘This is why you guys stayed here all summer. This is why you worked extremely hard, why you invested, why you put all those deposits into the fitness bank. Now you’ve got to pull them out.’ And they pulled them out. I couldn’t have been more proud.”

On his game-tying goal: “I didn’t see much. I just saw the defender coming at me. Usually, I would go [to the end]line and I knew he thought that’s what I was going to do, so I just gave him a little fake and cut it back and I saw him just sliding by, and I looked up and the goal was open, so I just curled it.”

On escaping Raleigh, N.C., with one point: “It’s definitely a relief that we came out of this game with a tie, because the refs didn’t really do much to help us out.”

Player rankings in a bit.
